Clipping guide

How to become a clipper

A complete beginner's guide to getting paid for creating viral clips. No followers, no experience and no expensive equipment needed.

What is clipping?

Clipping means taking the best, funniest and most talked-about moments from a streamer's live stream, turning them into short vertical videos, and reposting them to your own social accounts on TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels and X. You get paid based on the views those clips generate. It's one of the fastest-growing side hustles, and anyone can start.

Why become a clipper?

Earn per 100K views

Make £20 to £300+ for every 100,000 views your clips pull in.

Flexible schedule

Work from anywhere, any time. Create clips around your own life.

Low barrier to entry

Start with just a phone. No expensive gear or studio needed.

Scalable income

The more good clips you make, the more you earn. Simple.

Getting started

1. Choose your platforms

You can clip on multiple platforms. Each has its strengths:

PlatformBest forViral potential
TikTokTrends, entertainment, quick hooksHighest
YouTube ShortsGaming, evergreen, longer reachHigh
Instagram ReelsLifestyle and visual clipsMedium-High
X (Twitter)Commentary, sports, newsMedium

Pro tip: start with TikTok, which has the friendliest algorithm for new accounts, then expand once you find your rhythm.

2. Set up your accounts

Create or use an existing account for each platform (you don't need followers to start), post a little content first so the account looks real, and keep it public so views can be tracked.

3. Choose your tools

You don't need expensive software. Free editors like CapCut, DaVinci Resolve and InShot are all you need. A phone or laptop and an internet connection will do.

4. Make sure you qualify

To join the StreamPal clipping program you'll need:

  • A minimum of 350 followers or subscribers on your account
  • At least 450K views over the past 30 days (28 days on TikTok)
  • You've been posting streamer clips for at least a full month
  • 30+ Kick clips posted in that past month

5. Create your first clips

Focus on the fundamentals: hook viewers in the first 1–3 seconds, keep clips short, add captions (most people watch on mute), always include the creator's watermark, and post consistently.

Understanding earnings

Each streamer sets their own creator rate, and you're paid on your total views — not per clip. Every 100K of views counts.

£20–60

Creator rate per 100K

£300

Bounties per 100K

100K

Total views to get paid

Example: a streamer paying £50 per 100K means 100K total views earns you £50, and 500K views earns you £250. Bounties (first to a milestone, best clip, most engagement) stack on top for extra earnings.

Common mistakes to avoid

Weak hooks

Don't waste the first seconds on intros. Grab attention immediately.

No captions

Most people watch on mute. Always add captions.

Inconsistent posting

Algorithms reward daily consistency. Keep clipping.

Skipping the watermark

Clips without the creator's watermark won't qualify for payment.

One platform only

Cross-post the same clip to maximise views and earnings.

Ignoring guidelines

Read each streamer's rules. Unapproved clips won't count.

What to expect: a realistic timeline

Week 1–2

Set up and verify your accounts, learn the tools, and post your first 10–20 clips. Expect a learning curve and small earnings.

Month 1

Find your rhythm, work out which streamers and formats land best, and start hitting view thresholds more often.

Month 2–3

Consistency compounds. Your best clips do the heavy lifting and your monthly total climbs.

Month 6+

With a repeatable process across platforms, clipping becomes a real, scalable income stream.

Reality check:most beginners won't make thousands in month one. Clipping is a skill. Consistency and steady improvement are what turn it into real income.
